I know this is unrelated to the video and the musical but in the movie Heathers. I noticed that Heather Chandler uses her red scrunchie as a crown or badge of honor. She uses her scrunchie as a symbol of her power only taking it off in moments of weakness.

I think it's worth pointing out that of all the shitty parents in this play, Veronica's immediately try to get her proper support and treatment when they think she's thinking about suicide. For all her faults, she does come from a genuinely good and loving home and I think that's what helps her overcome JD in the end.

(just to preface this, ik D is not really talking to M here) imo what's really interesting about D's and M's relationship that i don't think people talk about enough is that D essentially treats M the same way that C treated her. C always told her that her disordered eating was no big deal, and that she needed to get out of C's way. I mean, the first time that D really bullies M, imo, is when she directly quotes what C always said, "Shut up Heather." I think the reasoning behind this could be that M sort of just let all this stuff happen to D without ever trying to stand up to C. This ties back imore nto the movie, since in the movie, M is really, really, really passive, and just sort of lets all this terrible stuff happen to D without doing anything about it. the musical gives M more of a character and humanizes her more imo, since in the movie, she is not unlikeable, but she just sort of comes off as weak and confused all the time, until her almost-death by suicide. Meanwhile, D is treated really poorly by C, and she always expects either Veronica or M to stand up for her, and they both just sort of..... don't. I think that's why M receives so much vitriol from D after C dies since M never did ANYTHING to help D in the movie. in the musical, they show her being sympathetic at the very least, but she still never really does anything to actually stop C's bullying because she's so scared of losing the life she's built up (as we hear about in lifeboat). And while we in the audience understand that, from D's perspective, M was just another bystander who let all this bullying happen to her, and now she's exacting a terrible revenge. I feel like D is essentially pressuring M into a similar situation that D herself was in with C, and D is basically saying to M that M doesn't deserve anything because she cracked under all the pressure and bullying and meanness that D was subject to for so long (while neglecting the fact that M might be much more emotionally vulnerable due to whats happening around her). tl;dr -- I think that D is putting M through what she went through with C, since she views M as an accomplice or a bystander who just stood by and let the bullying happen. While that isn't really M's fault, and I think that D should be more understanding of the current mental situation that M is in, I think its fascinating to see how vengeful and almost self-pitying D is once she starts bullying M, as shes essentially saying "You couldn't take what I went through" and thats why I kinda love both Duke and McNamara
